Free CPRP practice test for the psychiatric rehabilitation exam
This free CPRP practice test gives you 60 original questions for the Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner exam, sorted into the seven domains of the 2025 blueprint and weighted by their published bands. The first scenario items can feel unsettling, because two answers often sound supportive; that is the skill the exam measures, not a sign you are behind. Open Domain I, answer one item, and read the note on every option before you move on.

How the real CPRP exam is built
One correct answer per item, seven domains, no skipping.
The exam is 125 multiple-choice items, each with one correct answer, and you get three hours for them. That works out to about 1.4 minutes an item, which is more room than it sounds once you stop rereading the stem.
You take it on a computer under live online proctoring, at any hour of any day, from a private room with a webcam. You cannot skip an item, but you can go back and change answers before you submit, and an audio version is offered. Format checked .

What CPRP exam questions look like
Scenario items with one best answer. The wrong options are rarely unkind.
Most CPRP test questions are short scenarios: a person in recovery says or wants something, and you pick the response that best fits psychiatric rehabilitation practice. All four options are usually polite; what separates them is who makes the decision.
Take the first item in Domain I. A person tells you the approach you suggested is not working. Defending the plan, asking them to name a replacement on their own, and questioning their effort all sound reasonable on a bad day; thanking them and choosing a new approach together is the key, because their experience steers the work.
| The option that tempts you | Why it usually loses |
|---|---|
| Reduces symptoms or secures medication compliance | Psychiatric rehabilitation measures success in the person’s chosen living, learning, working and social roles, not in symptom control |
| Protects the person by steering the decision | Without a safety issue, informed choice and self-advocacy win over the practitioner’s judgment |
| Starts the assessment from the diagnosis or problem list | Assessment opens with strengths, preferences and interests, in the person’s own words |
| Writes an action plan for someone not yet considering change | Early stages call for building readiness and the relationship, not a schedule of steps |
| Adds one more professional service | The plan moves the person toward natural supports: family, friends, libraries, houses of worship |
| Follows agency policy and stops there | The PRA Code of Ethics puts primary responsibility on the person receiving services |
When two answers both sound kind, the key is usually the one that leaves the decision with the person.
Using practice questions in your CPRP exam prep
A low first score in a domain is common; it tells you where to read, not how exam day will go. Repeat this routine in short sessions:
Start with the two largest bands
Domain I, Interpersonal Competencies (19–21%), then Domain IV, Assessment, Planning, and Outcomes (17–19%). Together they hold 23 of the 60 items here. Each has its own guide: Interpersonal Competencies and Assessment, Planning, and Outcomes.
Read all four notes, not just the verdict
The notes say why the other three lose, and those reasons repeat across domains.
Pace one domain against the clock
Once a section feels familiar, time it at about 1.4 minutes an item, the real exam’s rate. Domain VI has 6 items here, so roughly 8 minutes.
Come back to the misses a day later
Press “Start over”, open the same domain, and answer only what you missed. A second miss marks a concept to look up in the study guide.
Other CPRP practice sources, and what to check
PRA sells its own CPRP Practice Test: 50 multiple-choice items from the seven domains, with three attempts per purchase. It is also included in PRA’s self-paced 20-hour online primer. This site is independent of PRA and of both products.
Free decks are a different matter: much of what is labelled CPRP online belongs to another credential with the same letters. Before you spend an evening on one, run it past this list.
- Mentions recovery, psychiatric rehabilitation and people receiving services
- Uses the seven domains: Interpersonal Competencies through Supporting Health & Wellness
- Plans on 125 items in three hours, not 150
- Explains why each wrong option is wrong, not just which letter is right
Go deeper before your next session
- Interpersonal CompetenciesDomain I, 19–21%: hope, trust, culture and collaboration.
- Assessment, Planning, and OutcomesDomain IV, 17–19%: strengths-based assessment and goals in the person’s words.
- Study guideAll seven domains, the blueprint bands and what to read for each.
- RequirementsThe five eligibility pathways, fees with dates, retakes and recertification.

What to carry into the exam
- 125 items, one correct answer each, three hours, no skipping but free to go back
- Weights are bands: start with Domain I (19–21%) and Domain IV (17–19%)
- The key usually keeps the decision with the person and builds natural supports
- Check that a free CPRP deck is about psychiatric rehabilitation before you study it
Questions practitioners ask
How many questions are on the CPRP exam?
125 multiple-choice items with one correct answer each, and 3 hours to answer them. Pages that still say 150 are quoting the 2022 candidate handbook, so plan your pacing on 125.
Is there a free CPRP practice exam?
Yes: the 60 questions on this page are free, need no account and keep a running tally as you answer. They cover all seven domains in proportion to the blueprint bands. PRA’s own practice test is a paid product, sold separately from anything on this site.
Are these real CPRP exam questions?
No. The exam’s items are secure and copyrighted, as the candidate handbook states. Every question here is an original item written to the published 2025 blueprint, and the rationale and option notes are ours. Treat any site selling “actual exam questions” with suspicion.
How difficult is the CPRP exam?
There is no published pass rate or cut score to measure it by. The passing standard is set by the Commission through a modified Angoff study, and you see a pass/fail result as soon as you finish. Where items get hard is judgment: the key is usually the option that keeps the person in charge of their own choices, and the distractors are the kind, protective ones that quietly take that choice away.
How can I study effectively for the CPRP exam?
Let the weight bands set the order. Domain I (19–21%) and Domain IV (17–19%) together are more than a third of the exam, so start there: one domain section here, then the matching part of the CPRP study guide for every item you missed. Repeat the misses a day later before you add a new domain.
Are Quizlet CPRP flashcards for the psychiatric rehabilitation exam?
Many are not. A lot of sets titled CPRP are for the NRPA Certified Park and Recreation Professional, a different exam that shares the letters. Before you study a deck, check that it talks about recovery, psychiatric rehabilitation and the seven domains on this page.
Carry the workbook on your iPhone
The iPhone app carries its full bank of CPRP practice questions, sorted by the seven blueprint domains. Ten questions on a break add up faster than one long weekend session.
